SD June Project!

THE POWER OF YOUTH! LET'S ROCK THE ERA!

Taken out from: Dialogue user guide
"Peace is not something far away.
Peace is caring for and valuing a single individual.
It is bringing joy, not suffering, to our mother.
It is reaching out to those who are different from us.
It is having the wisdom to reconcile after an argument.
And it is protecting our beautiful natural world.
It is fostering a rich culture.
It is refusing to build our happiness on the misfortune of others.
It is sharing others' joys and sufferings."

What are the objectives of this June Project?
  • Through this June Project, we hope that we would train ourselves as true Successors of Soka!
As Successors of Soka, let's:
  1. Share our mentor's greatness as true disciples of Ikeda Sensei
  2. Achieve personal victories in life by basing ourselves on Sensei's guidance
  3. Be aware of world issues and contribute to society in our own unique ways

Why the theme: "The Power of Youth! Let's Rock the Era!"? I
  • We hope that through the one-to-one dialogue and peace carnival, we would be able to:
  1. Bring greater awareness of the world issues 1
  2.  Influence a change in attitude of individual to take actions for the realization of world peace

What do I need to do?
  • In terms of the bazaar, each institution would be assigned to prepare one of the three topicsas stated above. Contribute your ideas to design games that allow some fun and learning!
  • As part of the reachout effort, we would be having a dialogue campaign, where we wouldhave a one-to-one dialogue with our members and friends about peace-related topics.

Do we have targets?
  • 1 dialogue per week. CICs can help your members achieve the target. This would be a breakthrough for you too. The important thing in this dialogue campaign is quality dialogue!
  • We hope to fill the ICA hall on the peace carnival. So target number of attendee is 1000.
*****For each to bring ONE person to the peace carnival *****

Why is the survey created?
  • It can be challenging to strike a conversation with your friend about peace-related topics.
  • Hence, this survey is created to help discuss the topics on global issues based on Ikeda sensei’s peace proposal to their friends and to discuss widely and confidently on issues that are affect the world, society and self.
  • Hope that this will help you to serve as a good starting point for a deeper discussion on these world issues. In other words, it is a means to an end, not an end itself.

What is the objective of the survey?
  • To find out about the awareness, attitude and action taken by your members and friends and the panelists from the forum would receive the survey results.
They would incorporate significant findings from the survey into their sharing too.

Is there an invitation card to invite?
  • INVITATION CARDS are available for you to invite your friends or inactive members to the Peace carnival. You may hand it to them after having a fruitful dialogue with them.

What is Sensei’s Peace Proposal about?
  • Every year since 1983, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda publishes a peace proposal which explores the interrelation between core Buddhist concepts and the diverse challenges global society faces in the effort to realize peace and human security. In addition, he has also made proposals touching on issues such as education reform, the environment, the United Nations and nuclear abolition.

Where can I find Sensei’s peace proposals?
Refer to the website: http://www.sgi.org/proposals.html
"Sincere one-to-one conversation can soften and melt even hearts that are completely
frozen."

*****Tips on a Successful Dialogue – P.O.W.E.R .*****
  •  Preparation – Read up on Dr. Ikeda’s Peace Proposal 2009 and 2010 to have a better understanding of the world issues that focuses on Economy, Environment and the Threat posed by Nuclear Weapons Research and Development
  • Open your heart – No dialogue can be concluded if it is going one-way. Listen intently and do not be hypocritical and flatter them. If you feel strongly for a certain point that disagrees with your friend and share your views with references made to his/her views and discuss why.
  • Worry not – Do not need to worry if your friends are not interested to talk about the topics chosen for the aim of this dialogue is to change this situation. There is no need to feel pressurized too. By sharing with others, we can strengthen our own convictions and let’s get our fellow friends who share our views to join us in our dialogues if need be.
  • Examples – More often than not, we find it hard to share certain ideas but with the correct analogy and/or examples made reference to news, our friends will be able to better appreciate the ideas shared.
  • Rejuvenating – if a dialogue ends up depressing, nothing good will come out of it. Thus always strive to conclude your dialogue with a hope for the future. No matter how depressing the world issues may seems to be, our actions now can effect a positive change to it.
